Last night, something came over me and I began reminiscing about my
favorite childhood toys. After some extensive Google searches, I
couldn't believe all the memories that came back to me! 1987
Talking Whiz Kid, PJ Sparkles & Starbrite Sparkles, Pogo Ball,
Skip-It, Talking Cricket Doll, Electronic Talk N Play, just to name
a few!
I also checked on Ebay to see how much certain things are going
for that I still have. For example, I own the entire Holiday
Barbie collection that began in 1988, all still in their boxes,
never opened. Something like that goes for about $2000!
There's one toy in particular that I can't find anything about
online, and I don't know what it was called. It was my
brother's, and had to have been from the 70s or early 80s. It
was this yellow machine and you would put popsicle sticks in
it, crank the handle, and it would split the popsicle stick. If
anyone knows what I'm talking about, it's driving me nuts not
remembering what it was called!
What are some of your favorite toys from your childhood?

I have tons, and I like to go see them at the Strong National
Museum of Play. While my kids play with their Dad, I sneak off and
look through the exhibits.

Growing up in the 80's - many of my memories include Cabbage Patch
Kids, Barbies, Rainbow Brite, My Little Ponies, Transformers and a
Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.

My Little Pony (making its resurrection again I saw) and Cabbage
Patch Kids.... Ummm they were so expensive that my parents could
not afford one for each of us (that was 3). I also go to Strong and
look at the museum, it's kind of neat. This could lend itself to a
discussion on TV shows too... like Captain Kangaroo (all right, you
young one's.... I had to use rabbit ears to get that show to come
in). I just had another birthday and needless to say I am toward 40
now and a lot of what our kids have now, was never a thought in my
parents minds to get.

My haunted Chrissy doll. You pushed a button on her back to either
pull her long ponytail out of her head, or retract it back into her
head for long or short dos. I swear she turned her head on her own.
Creeeepy.

I loved my Barbie motorhome - I think I pushed it around until the
wheels fell off. I loved Holly Hobbie, too and whatever my brothers
were playing with at the time (Star Wars, wild west playsets, Evil
Kenevil stuntmen, etc.).

Let's see?!?!? Growing up in the 50's my favorite toys were: (1)
two cans with a string between them (walkie-talkie) and (2)
baseball and bat.

Hey I had both as well, and I grew up in the 80s! We had the
telephone cans with string long enough to go from the bedrooms
upstairs to the kitchen downstairs LOL! A classic survives time
:)

I had a cricket doll, but I hardly ever played with her because it
was too expensive to break
I also had a pair of red stilts that I played with all the time.
They were basically an upside down cup with a string attached, but
I played with them for hours walking all around the yard. I also
had a pink Barbie big wheel, that I was extremely attached to.

i too had the snoppy snow cone machine and could play w/ it for
hours! i had cabbage patch dolls, big wheels, barbies, a huge
barbie condo (hand-me-down from a neighbor) and my little pony's!
what a blast from the past!!!!
i used to have a pink bunny blankie from Fisher Price when i
was a baby. it was my favorite. it was kinda like a puppet and
i'd put it over my hand, suck my thumb and rub the silky ears
on my nose! i had a few of them and eventually lost them all.
when i started trying to get pregnant, i thought about that
bunny a lot. i wanted to find one and give it to my daughter
(if i ever had one, which now i do!). i found one on ebay and
i must say, that i spent 7x what it was worth to win the bid.
it was so important to me to have a piece of my childhood for
my own child. while i haven't let her play w/ it yet, she has
a bunny lovey of her own that she adores! like mother, like
daughter!

My best friend and I discovered (the hard way) that car antennas
bring the can-string phone system to a quick silence. He was on
one side of the street and I was on the other. When a car would
come along, we would hold the cans over our heads and jump to
allow the string to go over the car. We weren't quite tall enough
to clear the antenna on one. ooops! :-) easy repair and we were
back in service!
When I think back to my childhood (which isn't over yet!!) I
remember more about the things we did than the 'toys' that we
had. Growing-up in the 50's was a lot different than today (or
the 80's, when my kids grew up or now when my grand kids are
growing up). I'm not saying that it was better then, just
different.
