I have been watching a lot of home shows on HGTV and it has
gotten me thinking. Do you have a guest room, and if so does it
function as something else (family room, home office, play room,
etc.) when it is not being used by visiting guests? How much
clean-up and/or rearranging do you have to do before guests can
use it?

None of our family or childhood friends live in WNY so a guest
room was a must for us. (In fact, we often have our kids room
together when guests are here because we usually need two guest
rooms.) Our designated guest room also doubles as my craft room.
It's a place where the kids and I do crafts, or I do crafts
alone, I wrap presents, or I store things that haven't been put
away yet. When I need it as a guest space I remove the kids'
craft table and rolling craft carts and open the fold-out couch,
which becomes a double bed. If the space is already neat it takes
me about 20 minutes to get it ready for guests. If it's a
disaster, well then it takes me half a day. I really should keep
the craft/guest room neater.

Since it's just two of us now, we have two rooms that could be
considered 'guest' rooms. One room (the Windsor Room) is ready for
guests at any given time. It's not used for anything else. The
other room (the Peanut Gallery) doubles as the computer
room/'office'. ( I put the ' ' around the office because that room
was only used for the computer room until I retired. When I became
involved in public service, I needed space for materials from
that). It can be made ready for guests in less than an hour. There
is a trundle bed in there that can be used as two twin beds or put
together as a double bed. (and both rooms have free
DirecTV as well)

Well, we have a "spare" bedroom. I wouldn't call it a "guest"
bedroom because there's no bed in it LOL. Currently we use the 2
closets in it for extra storage and have our treadmill and
weightbench in it. If we ever have another baby, it will become
their bedroom.

I don't have a guest room (too many kids/not enough space for that!
lol), but I would love to have one. Next house in my lifetime will
have a guest room!

We do have a second bedroom, but since we rarely have guests, I
wouldn't necessarily call it a guest room. There is a bed in it,
but it is covered with all kinds of stuff. I've also moved my
dressing table into the spare room to make more room in my bedroom.
If we were to ever have a guest, it would take some serious
cleaning up in there!

We used to have a guest room, but it was only used 2-3 times per
year, so we felt we were wasting the space and turned it into a
home office for my husband. We were going to put in a sofa sleeper
for guests in there, but on the advice of a designer, bought a
inflatable bed which folds out into a queen size bed with a frame
and everything (pretty comfortable, too) and then deflates into a
suitcase when you are done. Now, when we have guests, we put it in
the kids playroom, but really, could put it anywhere. All we do is
put the toys in the storage closet and we can turn it into the
guest room pretty easily. There is a TV in there and it is right
next to a bathroom, so it works out really well.

We have a separate guest room and an office with a pull out sofa
that serves as our back-up guest room. Since most of our family
lives far away, the guest space is a must have. The second room
gets used almost as much as the dedicated space. The only down side
of our current arrangement is that our dedicated guest room is on
the second floor. In our next house, we are searching for a place
with bedroom downstairs (possibly with an en suite) to make it
easier for our guests to use.

You would think we would have put in a guest room when we built the
new house but we didn't. We put in a den instead which doubles as
my husbands "man cave" he has his desk in there and no one else
really goes in there unless we have people over then the guys will
hang out in there. There is a couch that turns into a bed so that
could be used. The only people that have spent the night are other
kids and my sister. The kids sleep on an air mattress in the kids
rooms, and my sister sleeps in the living room on the couch. If we
did have family stay we would set they up in the playroom in the
basement that would work.

Guest room? No... I hardly have enough rooms for the people that
live here! Someday... (A girl can dream!)

Yes, we have a guest room, though the most frequent guest is my
hubby. ha! He loves to crash in that room somehow. So, whenever I
get a project going in there, it is trampled on or shoved aside. My
goal this summer is to create a home office space there for me,
while maintaining the crash-pad for him. Looking for a small desk
and bookcase maybe. A trip to Ikea may be in our future. Though I
saw a nice set-up on crateandbarrel.com that is lovely.

Our guest room has a full sized bed, a small desk, an armiore
(sp?), and a dog cage in it. It's packed! My husband uses the room
for getting ready in the morning, too. Lately the only person that
visits is my father in law, so now my daughter calls the guest
room, "papa's room". :)
